You’re ready to book a portrait session, but you’ve still got questions. Here are the answers to some of the questions I get asked most often.

Don’t see an answer you’re looking for? Send me a message and I’ll get you the info you need.

Where are you located?

I’m in Baton Rouge, Louisiana! I photograph all over the area, as most of my sessions are on-location. I have a home with amazing windows, studio light set-ups, and brick walls where I do any indoor studio portraiture.

Why should I book you and not someone else?

There are tons of things to consider when you’re hiring a photographer and not every photographer will be a good fit for you and your needs. You’ve got to consider what you like style-wise, what you can afford budget-wise, and who you like personality-wise. Any of those things can make or break a session. I’m not the most expensive luxury studio on the block, but neither am I a cheap, shoot-and-burn amateur. I LOVE working with great people and I happen to think I’m funny and make a good experience for my clients. I’m always happy to answer any questions you’ve got about getting a session done, either by me or someone else.

Do you only photograph high school seniors?

High school seniors are my portrait specialty, so that’s what mostly fills my calendar. I do photograph specialty sessions for individuals, such as underwater, couture, conceptual, or editorial.

I don’t photograph weddings, births, newborns, or families, but I can provide the names of several reputable and amazing photographers in the area that do.

How do I book you?

There’s a link up top that says “Contact.” That’s your starting point. You let me know when you’re thinking of having your session – and any questions you’ve got – and I’ll get back to you with my availability and answers. We go from there with booking your session (retainer and signing contract).

Is there anything I have to pay for outside of my session collection?

If the location you’d like for your portraits has a fee, you’re responsible for contacting them and paying the fee. There are tons of places around the area to shoot; some require a permit and fee, and some do not. We will choose a location for you that is perfect for your style and budget. Who does makeup and hair for you?

While hair and makeup application are not included in your session, I can make recommendations for a hair and makeup team that excels at creating the specific style you’re looking for (glam, natural, etc.). I work only with professionals (and who I trust!) that are licensed with the state.

Do I have to get my makeup done for a session?

That’s up to you. Some don’t wear a lot of makeup and don’t want their portraits to be inauthentic or “fake” seeming. Keep in mind that makeup will always photograph lighter than it is applied, and sometimes without makeup, someone can appear washed out or pale. A good makeup artist and hair team will make you look like yourself on your very best day, and we want you to feel good for your portrait session!

When should I book my portrait session?

It’s best to book at least 4 months in advance for a senior session because calendars do fill up (especially those fall and spring dates when the weather is amazing!). Keep in mind that I can’t reserve a date for you until you’ve completed your official contract and submitted your retainer.

How much do you charge for a portrait session?

That depends on what you want. My collections range from $575 to $1800, but my average client will spend around $800-900 on their session. Check the Portrait Pricing page up top to inquire and get my full welcome and pricing guide.

How many photos do I get?

This depends on the collection you purchase. Each one varies depending on the length of the session. Check out the pricing page for more info and to email for a welcome guide!

Can I have ALL the photos you take? I don’t mind if they aren’t edited…

I do not give out un-edited photos for any reason.  I carefully choose and edit the ones I present to you in your gallery, and don’t want anything I photographed and have *not* put my personal touch upon to be circulating. Gotta protect my artistic integrity.  Hopefully, one of the reasons you choose for me your portrait session is that you like what you see in my portfolio, social media posts, and on my blog, and so you know the quality of work I produce and deliver.
Once I cull your gallery and remove shots that are duplicate poses (2-3 shots of the same exact pose), where your eyes are closed, missed focus (it happens!), or just don’t work for me aesthetically, I permanently delete the ones I don’t plan to edit. You are getting the very BEST images from your session. Trust me, I’m not holding back any photo that’s amazing from you.

Do you travel?

I will absolutely travel outside Baton Rouge. Within the state, I’ve photographed seniors in Natchitoches, Lafayette, New Iberia, New Orleans, and Lake Charles. You only need to cover my accommodations and travel fees, if they’re required.

Can I have the copyright?

I never sell the copyright to the images that I create. What I do provide is a print release that allows you to print anywhere you’d like and share online with family and friends. What you can’t do is sell the photo to a magazine or book company, or even share it to be in a contest. That requires a commercial license.

Can I have the RAW files?

In short, no. You’re hiring me partly because you like my artistic style, and for me to give you the RAW files would be like a baker giving you the eggshells after baking a cake – difficult to do anything with! I’m well-versed in retouching and Photoshop (which is some of the only software that can even open and read RAW files), and I use those tools to take what I captured in camera to the next level, which makes amazing artwork for you.

But what if I really really want the RAW files?

If it’s a desperate need, we can work something out and put in writing before your session (because I always delete unedited photos after the session), but custom pricing for these files will be substantially greater (like 5 times more) than my regular pricing.

I’m not a senior yet, but I really want to be on your VIP team when I am! Where do I get that information?

I love working with excited young people that have ideas and enjoy being creative! Be sure to follow me on Instagram and Facebook, where I make announcements about registration for my Trendsetter VIP spots opening in February of each year.
